Counselling for Neurodivergent & Highly-Sensitive Adults:
For my work with neurodivergent kids/youth and their parents, click here.
You may feel like nobody “gets” you or that you keep running into the same challenges over-and-over. As a sensitive and neurodivergent person myself, and as a parent to sensitive and neurodivergent kids, I may relate to your experience.
In therapy, we can work with whatever you bring to each session. Counselling isn’t meant to impose unwanted changes on you, but instead to support you as the expert of yourself, and empower you to feel connected, equipped, and worthy.
You may wish to explore some of these areas, among others:
Emotional Processing. Your mind & body may long to express current and past experiences in words, art, writing, movement, or play. Instead of offering unwanted advice or instructions, I’ll act as an empathetic witness as you work through what concerns you.
Coping Strategies. Your toolbox of resources has brought you this far, and I’m committed to honouring you and honouring them. Together, if you’d like, we can look at what works for you, what feels outdated, and what new tools we can add to your collection.
Inner Child Work. You may not have always been cared for in the way you needed as a child. It’s not too late to tend to your younger parts that may feel scared, wounded, or not enough.
Anxiety & Depression. You might be feeling over- or under-energized, or plagued by feelings of overwhelm and dread. If it feels right for you, we can get curious about what’s happening in your thoughts and nervous system, offering support according to your comfort levels.
Relationships. You may be feeling disconnected, taken advantage of, or discouraged by your social circles. Boundary work, building advocacy skills, and exploring your emotions regarding your sense of connectedness may help you to feel empowered and less alone.
Self Expression. You offer a unique perspective that the world deserves to witness. As you move towards self-trust and self-compassion, you may feel freer to share your ideas and express your true Self.
Advocacy. I love supporting adults to advocate for themselves in educational and work settings. I can do this for and with you (via letters and consultation), or equip you to do it yourself.
Special Interests (SpIns). I believe that what lights you up and brings you joy has tremendous therapeutic value. Sessions can include info-dumping, sharing what you’re learning, and celebrating your successes.
