Parent Consultation & Child/Teen Counselling

It can feel like too much to manage difficult behaviour while navigating meetings, appointments, and assessments. While my main focus is your family’s unique experience, I have confidence working with children who may fit the descriptions of Autism, PDA (Pathological Demand Avoidance), Twice-Exceptional/Gifted, ADHD, OCD, PTSD, anxiety, and depression, among others.

I’m here to support you and your child in the following ways:

Validation. You deserve non-judgmental care. I operate on the assumption that you are always doing your best with the resources you have.

Education. You have the right to understand what is happening behind challenging behaviour and how you can support your child accordingly.

Collaboration. Your child is an expert on themselves, and you often have more insight into your child’s experience than professionals do. For this reason we’ll work together, and I’ll trust your family’s expertise. We can include your child’s therapeutic team in our work together, so that we keep everyone on the same page.

Advocacy. It can be difficult navigating meetings and assessments, especially when others don’t understand your kid. I can speak with and for you in these intimidating situations so that you have more agency in their education and care.

Child therapy. Your child may benefit from individualized counselling (that doesn’t feel like counselling!). I start by building a relationship with them with a low-demand child-led approach. This process often includes games, their interests, and whatever feels safe and fun to them. Once we build a sense of safety, I can act as a “container” for their struggles and big feelings when/if they feel ready. My sessions can include identifying and expressing emotions, utilizing effective coping and problem-solving skills, and increasing their sense of self worth - but only with their consent.

Informal autism screenings. Learn more about this service here.

My services are covered by the Autism Funding Unit (AFU) of BC and most insurance providers
